Comprehensive map of Certified Farmer's Markets and Wine
Tasting in and around Salinas.
This map highlights why Salinas is known as the 'Salad Bowl of the
World' - Salinas boasts eight Certified Organic Farmer's Markets and
several more in the Salinas Valley. No trip to Salinas is
complete without savoring our incredible wines and delicious produce.
Interesting are the other sites you will see on the fabulous wine route
along River Road. John Steinbeck wrote about many of the
places there, and there still remain historic homes and old barns from
days gone by. The first stop should be the Farm to see and
learn about how vegetables are grown and life on a farm. Take
a tour and buy some local produce from the farm stand.
Chateau Coralini, now a luxurious bed & breakfast, originally
was the Cory House and owned by the Violini family for many years, sits
at the head of River Road, and the Buena Vista Grange can be seen while
driving along. Mission Soledad is close by, as are the
original Mission School, now abandoned, and a historic Farm Labor Camp.
Don't miss a stop at Wild Things Animal Park - the ranch houses exotic
animals used in movies and on television, a features a wild bed
& breakfast on the premises. Famous Joseph the Lion,
who was the model for the Lion King and inspired the owner to found
Wild Things, passed away in 2008. He is buried at the entrance as a
tribute to love he inspired and remembrance of his fame and importance
to Salinas.
If horsemanship is your thing, there is the Barlocker Rustling Oaks
Ranch, also housing a fabulous bed & breakfast, where
equestrian camps for kids and horseback riding lessons for kids of all
ages are held.
