Comprehensive map of murals and sculptures in and around
Salinas.
This map highlights the many murals painted by the One Voice Arts
& Leadership Program (formally the One Voice Mural Project)
sponsored by Monterey County Job Bank. One Voice paired
professional artists with youth to design and create murals depicting
the history and culture of Salinas.
Interesting are the large cutout figures by John Cerney and Dong Sum
Kim around the city and scattered throughout agricultural
fields. These are trompe l'oeil, a French
phrase meaning 'fool the eye', they may surprise you with the realism
and sense of humor. Always an unexpected, fun discovery!
Other notable artworks include historic sculpture, pop art, WPA- era
murals and occasionally even guerilla art - so keep your
eyes - and your mind open!
